THEhotel Las Vegas Changing Name to Delano Las Vegas

THEhotel Las Vegas Changing Name to Delano Las Vegas. MGM Resorts International has entered into a partnership with Morgans Hotel Group to rebrand THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay to Delano Las Vegas. Morgans Hotel Group opened Delano South Beach in Florida in 1995 and it has gone on to become a huge success representing “…the next generation of “Urban Resort” – where the notions of the “Indoor/Outdoor Lobby” and the idea of “Simple Chic” were initiated” according to a Morgans press release. The goal is to bring the South Beach feel to Las Vegas along which has been especially popular with customers in Latin America and Europe, which MGM Resorts International is looking to for future growth. Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino is not part of this agreement and is excluded from this project and rebranding.

THEhotel at Mandalay Bay is an 1,117 all-suite resort attached to Mandalay Bay. The project will include a complete renovation and redesign to go along with the name change to Delano Las Vegas. Included in the overhaul is the resort’s bars, lounges, guest rooms, spa, restaurants and public spaces. Already announced changes include a casual American bistro by Chef Brian Massie, a Japanese restaurant by celebrity chef Akira Back, and a redesign for Red Square. The renovations are scheduled for completion by the end of 2013.

At first glance this looks to be a perfect partnership. THEhotel is attached to Mandalay Bay providing the convenience of access to both resorts and their facilities. Perhaps the best integration opportunity for the Delano rebranding is Mandalay Bay Beach which conveniently has a beach with real sand bringing the Florida feel to Vegas. Building on this massively popular complex which includes a wave pool, lazy river and jogging track seems like a natural fit. Add in the Shark Reef Aquarium which provides an undersea world featuring aquatic animals and the partnership quickly takes shape.

THEhotel is currently a sensual hotel appealing to the Las Vegas vistor who expects luxury and sophistication. Having opened in 2003, THEhotel is due for a renovation in the competitive market of Las Vegas. Morgans Hotel Group has a solid infrastructure already in place to build upon and with their expertise and input, it will be exciting to see the transformation. Once completed, MGM Resorts, which owns Mandalay Bay and THEhotel, will manage the renamed property under a licensing agreement.
