MGM Grand Las Vegas Stay Well Rooms

August 26, 2021 by lvd0zias

MGM Grand Las Vegas is undergoing “The Grand Renovation” which includes an overhaul of everything from the room and suites to a new nightclub. One of the more innovative ideas being introduced are “Stay Well” rooms that are designed to “… help guests reverse jetlag; reset the body’s internal 24-hour clock and regulate melatonin levels to promote better sleep; incorporate an advanced water filtration system which infuses Vitamin C into shower water; and offer healthy food and beverage options” according to a statement release by MGM Grand. Perhaps most surprisingly is these rooms are being offered at a reasonable price and will be included in promotional deals.

Located in the hotel’s main tower, the MGM Grand Las Vegas Stay Well Rooms are 42 rooms offering 12 health and wellness features including:

· Advanced Room Lighting which improves the body’s internal clock by assisting in the regulation of melatonin production and sleep/wake cycles

· Wake Up Light Therapy exposing guests to short periods of blue-shaded lighting to increase energy and reverse the effects of jetlag

· Nightlighting featuring LED lamps designed to illuminate pathways at night without disturbing melatonin levels

· Dawn Simulator Alarm Clocks gradually awakening the body

· Vitamin C Shower Infusion providing shower water infused with Vitamin C which neutralizes chlorine to promote healthy hair and skin

· STAY WELL Air Purification System which is the most advanced HEPA-standard air purification system reduces allergens, toxins and pathogens, creating better air quality and breathing

· Aromatherapy. Optional aroma infusion for STAY WELL guests.

· Water Filtration System to reduce disinfectant byproducts, chlorine, pesticides and some pharmaceutical and personal care products for the cleanest, most purified in-room water

· EMF Protection protecting STAY WELL guests from electrical equipment that emanates sleep-disruptive Electromagnetic Fields (EMF)

· Photo-Catalytic Coating to break down bacteria, virus and VOCs on bacteria-susceptible surfaces

· Cleveland Clinic exclusive access wellness software which includes stress management, sleep and nutrition programs, as well as access to healthy food/drink options developed by the Cleveland Clinic, which guests can use for up to 60 days after their stay

· STAY WELL Channel providing an educational video on the features in the room

Scott Sibella, president and COO of MGM Grand believes health and wellness is something guests do not want to leave behind when on vacation “We know our guests come to Las Vegas to escape and unwind, but we also know that an increasing number of them are looking to take their wellness lifestyle ‘on the road’ as an extension of their daily, healthful lives at home, The MGM Grand Las Vegas Stay Well Rooms rooms provide an unprecedented opportunity for a complete wellness hotel experience.”

The level of success this initiative will have is going to be interesting to follow. Those already into healthy lifestyles are likely to view this as a necessity and some corporations may even foot the bill for the upgrade for their employees viewing it as a sound investment in health and wellness.

Somewhat surprisingly, the rooms are only an additional $30 more than MGM Grand’s regular priced rooms. A great deal for a relaxing experience in Las Vegas.

Best and Worst Las Vegas Strip Hotel Names

August 26, 2021 by lvd0zias

The other day I found myself in a discussion with a friend about one of the Vegas strip hotels when he suddenly blurted out how “dumb” he thought the name of the hotel was. Although our discussion had nothing to do with the hotel name, his passionate stance, seemingly out of nowhere, made me pause. I soon realized I too had strong opinions on many of the hotel names and a list of the best and worst Las Vegas Strip hotel names was born.

The list is admittedly unscientific. No surveys were taken, no marketing studies conducted. By far the most difficult part in coming up with the list was determining if one tries to separate the “feeling” one has for the hotel itself based on things such as its decor and atmosphere in an effort to create a list based solely on a name. If I was provided with a list of 10 hotel names which I had never set foot in, a non-emotional list could be much more easily created. I came to the conclusion there is no way to separate any emotional attachment I may have for a hotel from its name, so the list is a result of the name itself in combination with the “feeling” each one creates. Clearly a name + feel generated list is subjective and ends up being largely a personal list based on experiences at the premises and unconscious biased towards certain words, places or themes. Comment at the end of the article letting me know if I have hit the mark or am way off your own personal list.

To be considered, the hotel has to be open to the public (eliminating the soon to be opened SLS and The Cromwell) and I had to have spent time within the hotel. Not necessarily stay at the hotel, but have spent time within its public areas.

Some hotel names themselves simply don’t conjure up any emotion for me and don’t make the list. Hotels falling into this category are Wynn, Planet Hollywood, MGM Grand, Bally’s, Flamingo, Harrah’s and Tropicana.

Some hotels are named based on a theme, location or hotel design and because of that their name suits them perfectly. Paris, Excalibur, Treasure Island (although much less than it once did), Luxor, Monte Carlo, Circus Circus, Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, New York-New York, Venetian, Palazzo fall into this category.

List of best Las Vegas Strip hotel names:

1. THEhotel
Unfortunately its spot at the top of the list will end this year with the pending name change to The Delano. THEhotel was once described to me as having a sensual feeling to it. I agree, and this hotel transforms me into a state of calm and relaxation as I walk down the hallway toward the elevators. People either love or hate the name, I for one love it.

2. ARIA
Simply a beautiful hotel with a name that suits it. Simple and elegant.

3. The Mirage
The Mirage best sums up the Vegas Strip for me in that I often feel what I am seeing is an optical illusion. In my opinion it is a brilliant name with the top of the towers themselves creating a mirage. Steve Wynn definitely got this one right.

4. Encore
What I like best about the name Encore is that it itself is an Encore to the Wynn resort. A second performance demanded by a brilliant first performance.

5. Cosmopolitan
The word cosmopolitan makes me think of a sophisticated, glamorous traveller. This hotel pulls off that feeling well.

List of worst Las Vegas Strip hotel names:

1. The Quad
There is only one. That is how bad this name is. A number two in the list wouldn’t even come close. Rumours are this name will be changed and let’s hope so.

What impact, if any, does the hotel name have on your opinion or feelings about the property itself? What impact does the name have on your view of the fabulous hotels on the Vegas Strip?

MGM Grand WET Republic. The MGM Grand’s pool area lives up to its name. The resort’s five pools sit amongst a lush green landscape that truly is “Grand”. The MGM pool deck is over six acres and, like most Las Vegas resorts, hosts a family area alongside an outdoor 21+ day club resort.

Wet Republic has two salt water pools, six waterfalls, and a dance platform for guests to experience the ultimate in outdoor Las Vegas luxury. Hotel and non-hotel guests can indulge in Wet Republic’s VIP lifestyle by renting a cabana. August 26, 2021 by lvd0zias

The pool at The Mirage is smaller than most Las Vegas resorts. But, this doesn’t mean The Mirage is lacking when it comes to poolside amenities. Guests who visit the Mirage’s pool area will feel like they are staying at a Hawaiian resort. The complex has two designated pool areas that transport guests to what feels like a tropical oasis. The pools are complimented by a beautiful waterfall, and they are located right next to the resort’s Dolphin Habitat. There are several lagoons adorned by walls of Palm Trees, which makes The Mirage’s pool complex seem secluded from the hustle and bustle of busy Las Vegas.

The handicap accessible pool areas provide plenty of general seating on a first come – first serve basis. Guests can reserve chairs for a VIP price tag of fifty dollars each. Both pools are heated and both pools are located close to the Paradise Café and Dolphin Bar. The Mirage has reasonably priced their outdoor food entrees and beverages. The resort also provides Cocktail Service to guests of both pools. It should be noted that security is tight and will check room keys, via a scanning device, to ensure only guests of The Mirage can enjoy all the pool complex has to offer.

The Mirage pool area has pool toys, rafts, and inner tubes available for rent. However, these items aren’t really needed as both pools have a fantastic mellow vibe flattering the resort’s beach theme. Adult guests also have a private pool option called Bare. Guests of Bare are led through tropical landscape to the opposite side of the Dolphin Habitat. There is a minimal cover charge for entrance to Bare. Upon arrival, guests will discover this 21+ day club is also a topless sunbathing area. Bare has two laid-back dipping pools, highlights an European ambiance, features music played by guest DJs, and boasts beautiful cabanas that are available for rent.

The Mirage does offer pool-side aerobics classes as an added bonus for guests looking for a little more than relaxation by the water. The classes are available upon request.
