The best cheap breakfast options in Las Vegas

September 26, 2021 by lvd0zias

For those of us who are actually up in time for breakfast in Las Vegas, there are lots of options. And as with everything Vegas, you can usually find what you are craving for a range of prices. We have compiled a list of the best cheap breakfast options in Las Vegas (or at least reasonably priced) so you can get your day started without breaking the bank.

10. Village Pub and Café

Location – Ellis Island Hotel, 4178 Koval Lane, one block east of the Las Vegas Strip

The original Village Pub location was opened in 1968, on the corner of Koval and Flamingo, where Ellis Island Casino & Brewery sits today, as a small locals’ bar with only two items on the menu; a bowl of chili and a ham sandwich. They have now expanded to over 12 locations in Vegas and are known for great food, at great prices.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night, the Village Pub & Café is sure to satisfy your cravings. With prices that won’t break the bank, the menu has a wide variety of items always available to ensure that 2:00 a.m. steak craving is satisfied.

The Breakfast Special, which is not on the menu, is Steak and Eggs for $6.99. An eight-ounce New York steak grilled over the open flame, served with two eggs any style, house made potatoes and your choice of toast. Even cheaper, but just as yummy is the Two Eggs Any Style breakfast. Two eggs cooked any style served with housemade potatoes and toast for $5.99.

Great food, good sized portions, great price.

9 La Salsa Cantina

Location – inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Hotel, 3663 Las Vegas Blvd South

La Salsa Cantina offers fresh versions of traditional Mexican fare and a full bar featuring 40 premium tequilas, specialty rum drinks, wine and a full compliment of Mexican beers and its signature “Margarita by the Yard”, an actual yard-long flask filled with the award-winning libation.

This location at the Miracle Mile shops at Planet Hollywood was opened May 11, 2002. For those of you old enough to remember, it was called the Desert Passage at Aladdin back then.

The Breakfast Special comes with 2 eggs any style, choice of bacon, ham or sausage, southwest potatoes and choice of corn or flour tortilla for $4.79. But you will need to get there before noon when special ends, No reservations. As a bonus, Bloody Mary’s are only .99 cents.

Excellent service, great price, good food. Arrive early to avoid a lineup.

8. Eggslut

Location – inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South

Eggslut is a chef driven, gourmet food concept founded in 2011. It’s inspired by a true love for eggs. The menu is a balance of comfort and innovation, celebrating food that appeals to both novice and extreme foodie through classic comfort fare with a twist, all encompassing the key ingredient, eggs.

With an average cost between $7 – $10 Eggslut may not fall perfectly into the cheap eats category. The prices are reasonable, and the sandwiches excellent. The Bacon, Egg & Cheese sandwich is our favorite. Hardwood smoked bacon, cage-free over medium egg, cheddar cheese and chipotle ketchup in a warm brioche bun.

Friendly service, great food, good price. The lineups can be long. Although they move fast, be prepared to wait.

7. Ocean One Bar and Grill

Location – inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Hotel, 3663 Las Vegas Blvd South

Next on our list of the best cheap breakfast options in Las Vegas is Ocean One Bar & Grille brings its famous 3-for-1 all-day happy hour specials to its fifth location – inside the Miracle Mile Shops. This upscale bar and restaurant is a regular spot for the after-work crowd to socialize with friends and meet new people. Ocean One Bar & Grille offers classic bar and grill menu items, like burgers, salads and appetizers, as well as fresh fish, steak, chicken and chop specialties. Additionally, Ocean One Bar & Grille boasts one of the best values on the Strip – most lunch items are $3.99 and most dinner items are only $6.99.

For breakfast, give the 2 Eggs Any Style a try. 2 Eggs Your Way With House Potatoes, Toast And Choice Of Ham, Bacon, Or Sausage for $5.99. And of course, Ocean One Bar and Grill is famous for 3 for 1 Cocktails for only $10 (no sharing).

Good food, great price, incredible drink offer.

6. Earl of Sandwich

Location: inside Planet Hollywood Resort, 3667 Las Vegas Blvd South

A sandwich is much more than just meat between two slices of bread. The extensive menu at Earl of Sandwich pays tribute to the art of sandwiches with fresh-baked, artisan bread and the finest ingredients at this delightfully upscale sandwich shop.

What makes Earl of Sandwich so great is not only the incredible tasting sandwiches, but also reasonable prices. For a fast, casual breakfast this is the place. All the breakfast sandwiches are under $5.00, like the Ham & Swiss with ham, swiss, sour cream & mustard sauce for $4.99. Breakfast is available from 8:00 – 11:00 am.

Good food, good portion, fast and casual.

5. Hash House a Go Go

Location: inside Plaza Hotel, 1 North Main Street downtown Las Vegas

“Twisted farm food” is what happens when homestyle Indiana favorites meet the excess of the Strip. Famous for creative menu offerings, oversized portions, unique presentation and flavorful dishes using the freshest ingredients, Hash House A Go Go is home to breakfasts, one pound stuffed burgers , colossal salads, and a variety of innovative dishes at dinner. Decadent desserts like the Chocolate Snickers Bread Pudding and a drink menu renowned for its mimosas and Bloody Marys plus freshly squeezed juices plus the house favorite Kiwi Watermelon Lemonade round out Hash House A Go Go’s offerings.

The Two Egg Breakfast includes two eggs any style, served with potatoes and your choice of bacon, sausage links, turkey sausage patties, plus fruit garnish and biscuit or toast for $9.99. Although there are three other locations in Vegas including one at the LINQ and another at the RIO, the above breakfast special only appears on the Hash House a Go Go Plaza location.

Good price, good food, good portion.

4. Donut Bar

Location: 124 South 6th Street

Modern counter offering coffee & oversized donuts in inventive flavors like mud pie & caramel latte. Want to taste one of the most ordered items on the menu at this morning go-to? Order the apple fritter, or try the creme brulee and the strawberry split, which are two of the items commonly ordered together.

Our favorite is the Big Poppa Tart Donut (choose s’mores, strawberry or blueberry) for $5.00. Don’t let the price fool you, this is a BIG donut. The smaller donuts, such as the Boston Crème (yum!) are $3.00.

Open from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm (8-12 Saturday and Sunday), the Donut Bar is a big hit.

Light, fluffy donuts, friendly staff, known to close when they run out of donuts!

3. House of Blues Restaurant and Bar

Location: inside Mandalay Bay Hotel, 3950 S Las Vegas Blvd

House of Blues Restaurant & Bar is a unique dining experience featuring a menu created by noted celebrity chef Aarón Sanchez. Signature dishes include shrimp and grits, meatball sliders, hand stretched grilled flatbreads, chile braised short ribs and street tacos.

Open for breakfast, the Breakfast Special includes 2 eggs any style, toast, hash browns and choice of meat for $12.99. Although not the cheapest breakfast on the list, the atmosphere is excellent. Plus, if you are staying at Mandalay Bay or Delano, your choices are limited so this becomes much more attractive.

Good food, OK price, good atmosphere qualifies it for our list of the best cheap breakfast options in Las Vegas.

2. Blondies Sports Bar and Grill

Location: inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Hotel, 3663 Las Vegas Blvd South

Blondies offers a traditional bar menu of starters and entrees, sandwiches, salads, pizzas and desserts. Blondies carries every big sports game on its over 60 plasma and big-screen televisions. Blondies Sports Bar and Grill Las Vegas is your one stop shop for an awesome atmosphere, great service, amazing drinks, and delicious food!

Open for breakfast, this place is a incredible. The Breakfast Special is your choice of a burrito filled with scrambled eggs, ham sausage, bacon, hash browns, jack cheese, Pico de Gallo, wrapped in a flour tortilla OR a plate of 2 eggs, bacon or sausage and country potatoes. Either only $3.99 each.

Great food, incredible price, excellent atmosphere.

1. Pyramid Café

Location: inside Luxor Hotel, 3900 South Las Vegas Blvd

Last on our list of the best cheap breakfast options in Las Vegas is Pyramid Cafe which features breakfast specials including golden buttermilk pancakes, three-egg omelets and cranberry walnut French toast. Try our continental breakfast with your choice of fresh pastries, juice, coffee and tea. For lunch, sink your teeth into our Philly cheese steak sandwich, oven-roasted baron on beef, or chicken Caesar on focaccia. You can choose from the selection of specialty burgers and soups. For a casual dining experience, the Pyramid Cafe offers prime rib entrees, Atlantic salmon and chicken parmesan.

Open for breakfast and lunch only (closes at 2:00 pm), for a great beginning to your day, try the Chicken & Waffles, Pyramid Stacks or the French Toast Sticks! Or, if you want something a little faster, try the continental Breakfast or Breakfast Parfait.

Our favorite breakfast is the Pyramid Classic for $16.49. It includes three bacon or two sausages, two eggs, hash browns and choice of toast. It is the most expensive breakfast on our list, but the food is excellent, quiet atmosphere, and is a reasonable option for those staying on the south end of the Strip. Excellent food, friendly staff, quiet atmosphere.

Las Vegas Hidden Treasures

September 26, 2021 by lvd0zias

Each trip to Vegas usually includes discovering something you did not know about. Maybe it is a store you are seeing for the first time, an art display, a special view, or a show you did not know was playing, in the Entertainment Capital of the World you almost always come across some Las Vegas Hidden Treasures.

With so many incredible sites to see and activities to do in Las Vegas, it can be easy to miss or overlook some of them, even when they are right in front of you! Let’s have a look at some of our favorite Las Vegas hidden treasures.

1. The Steak House

Location: Circus Circus Hotel, 2880 S Las Vegas Blvd

A Las Vegas dining tradition for over 30 years, THE Steak House at Circus Circus is acclaimed for serving the finest quality Midwestern beef, dry-aged to perfection in a glass-enclosed room viewable from the main dining room. Prime cuts are prepared over an exhibition-style, open-hearth mesquite charcoal broiler.

If you are familiar with The Steak House, referring to it as a hidden treasure will seem strange. But that is just it. The Steak House is so obvious it is easily missed. Entering Circus Circus from the Las Vegas Strip, curve around the Main Casino then continue straight, passing Krispy Kreme. THE Steak House will be on your left. No fancy eye catching exterior. No grand view of inside the restaurant or exterior seating area.

Las Vegas Hidden Treasures - The Steakhouse at Circus Circus
Entry to The Steakhouse at Circus Circus – a Las Vegas Hidden Treasures

The Steak House is known for great food. With an average rating of 4.5\5 on Tripadvisor, the reviews say it all. A simple one-page menu with appetizers, salads, entries and accompaniments to choose from, entries come with soup or salad and the portions won’t leave you hungry. You won’t find hamburgers, chicken fingers or pasta type items on this menu, they stick to seafood and steak. And do it well. They claim to have the best cheese cake ever (even at times offering to not charge you for the cake if you disagree!). Not surprisingly they are right, the cheese cake is incredible.

The atmosphere is unique. The lighting and décor seemingly transport you back to the 70s, but not in a bad way. Everything is neat and clean. It feels like old school Vegas, almost as though it could be a scene from the movie Casino.

2. Le Macaron

Location: in the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian hotel, 3355 S Las Vegas Blvd

Le Macaron is a franchise with locations all across the United States. They are known for the macaron which is considered to be the jewel of French pastries in Europe. And they don’t disappoint. The macarons delight, with the first bite being a surprise for those who have never tried one. The second bit you will notice the flavor. And by the third bite, it is nothing but pleasure. In total, a mouthful of heaven!

Las Vegas Hidden Treasures - Le Macaron Venetian Las Vegas

Le Macaron isn’t on our list for their French Patisseries though. Surprisingly, they are on our list for their seating area which is easily missed. To the right of the till there is a stair case leading to seating overlooking the Grand Canal. It is easily missed and provides a unique, peaceful view of people enjoying an authentic Venetian gondola ride.

3. Hard Hat Lounge

Location: 1675 Industrial Rd, Las Vegas

Perhaps best known for the mural on the wall allegedly painted by Frank Bowers in 1962 to pay off a bar tab, the Hard Hat Lounge is referred to as a dive bar. Dive Bars are typically a small, unglamorous, eclectic, old-style bar with inexpensive drinks and may feature dim lighting, shabby or dated decor, neon beer signs, packaged beer sales, cash-only service, and a local clientele. Which perhaps describes this place perfectly.

Las Vegas Hidden Treasures - Hard Hat Lounge
Hard Hat Lounge, one of Las Vegas Hidden Treasures.

Built in 1958, and a full bar since 1962, the 24-hour location with an outdoor patio is best known for catering to local workers, and being in an industrial area, that is to be expected. This place has a real authentic feeling. The vibe is chill and the staff is super nice.

If you are looking for an authentic Vegas dive bar experience, the Hard Hat Lounge fits the bill. Their vegan pizza is popular – we had pepperoni pizza and it was delicious!

4. Frankie’s Tiki Room

Location: 1712 West Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas

Frankie’s Tiki Room is a unique combination of south seas exotica and modern primitivism, with just a hint of Las Vegas kitsch. A place where you can escape to the fantasy 24/7.

The interior of Frankie’s was built by Bamboo Ben, the world’s foremost tiki bar designer and grandson of Eli Hedley, famous for creating the décor at such fabulous destinations as the original Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland and the Las Vegas classic Aku Aku at the Stardust. Frankie’s also boasts original artwork and carvings by such renown artists as Shag, Bosko Hrnjak, Crazy Al Evans, Tom “Big Toe” Laura, Doug Horne and the revered godfather of all tiki carvers Leroy Schmaltz.

Las Vegas Hidden Treasures - Frankies Tiki Room Las Vegas
Interior of Frankies Tiki Room, a Las Vegas Hidden Treasures.

Get boozed-up amid a remarkable combination of traditional island decor and modern lowbrow art while listening to a soundtrack that bounces from exotica and surf to psychobilly and garage. Frankie’s is a one-of-a kind experience that will absolutely blow your mind.

The atmosphere is dark (no windows) and smoky, in a good way. Hawaiian music, and drinks add to the cool, mellow vibes! You will forget you are in Vegas! As a tourist, Frankie’s Tiki Room is off the beaten path, but this is one Las Vegas hidden treasure worth discovering.

Closing Sirens of TI show at Treasure Island a mistake

August 26, 2021 by lvd0zias

Treasure Island (TI) Las Vegas is undergoing a change which on the surface appears to be a safe, follow the leader move, but will it be met with the financial and word-of-mouth success they are hoping for? Is closing Sirens of TI show at Treasure Island a mistake?

Last fall Treasure Island Las Vegas announced the popular outdoor show “Sirens of TI” is closing after 10 years. The free attraction actually ran for 20 years as it was originally known as Buccaneer Bay when Treasure Island opened Oct. 27, 1993. The 10-minute shows ran four times nightly and attracted large crowds out front of the hotel regularly. Its last show ended up being on October 20, 2013 to the surprise of the cast who were originally informed the closure was temporary. Some good news is that the two ships will reportedly remain in the significantly reduced lagoon.

The “Sirens of TI” show wasn’t highly rated receiving on average a 2-3 star rating on popular rating websites. But it was free, and it achieved something that is difficult to do on the Las Vegas Strip, it attracted crowds out front of the hotel and garnered discussion. How many people returned home from their vacation and discussed the free Strip shows including the Bellagio Fountains, the Mirage Volcano and the “pirate show” at TI?

In its place will be a three-story, 48,000-square-foot retail space scheduled to open in the fall of 2014 at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road. Sounds like a reasonable, logical business decision – replace a free attraction with retail space generating rental income and hopefully added foot traffic within the resort. The concern becomes how many shopping options are enough? The Fashion Show Mall, Grand Canal Shoppes and upscale shopping at Wynn are all across the street from Treasure Island. And of course one can’t forget the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, Mandalay Place at Mandalay Bay, the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood and the Crystals shopping center. As if these aren’t enough, coming soon is the new shopping expansion coming to the Tropicana, as well as the new Park shopping district at Monte Carlo and New York-New York, the new shopping and dining district called The Linq, and the Grand Bazaar Shops planned for Bally’s. Wow!

It is difficult if not impossible to know how many tourists who watched the Sirens show ended up heading into the hotel itself to check out what it had to offer. In the summer I would watch the show and commonly head into the hotel afterwards to sit down and grab a drink. Even if I head into the retail area I will be more likely to purchase a drink at the CVS Pharmacy (one of the confirmed tenants) and head back out to the Strip.

The question becomes does Treasure Island generate more revenue from retail tenants than from tourists who watched the Sirens show and ended up in the hotel afterwards to check out what it had to offer? This in part will be determined by their ability to rent out the entire space regularly. The difficulty in determining the financial impact from the word of mouth and walk in traffic generated from the pirate show means we will likely never know the answer.

I for one will miss the “Sirens of TI” show. Not because it was a great show, but because it offered an opportunity to enjoy some free entertainment and provided a discussion point regarding the uniqueness of Vegas. I suspect without the pirate show the number of people talking about TI as a place to check out while in Vegas will drop significantly. Closing Sirens of TI show at Treasure Island was mistake.

Background….

Caesars Entertainment Las Vegas Introduces Linq Entertainment District (rebranded to The LINQ Promenade). The Las Vegas Strip is well known for its continual efforts to re-brand and renew itself through new attractions, hotels and shows. Caesars Entertainment is next up with their ambitious Linq Entertainment District, a $500 million retail, dining and entertainment corridor which will include the re-branding and introduction of the LINQ hotel and include the world’s tallest observation wheel, known as the High Roller. Caesars Entertainment has provided a breakdown of the Linq project as new restaurants and bars accounting for about 70% of the development and retail stores and entertainment venues accounting for the rest with the anticipated project completion date being the end of 2013.

One of the first and for some the most emotional signs of this project getting under way came in early 2012 with the closing of O’Sheas Casino. O’Sheas had built a cult like following mostly with the younger crowd with its beer pong tournaments and Lucky the Leprechaun mascot, Brian Thomas. The good news is that O’Sheas will be back as part of the Linq complex and is expected to blend nicely with the new development yet maintain the clearly distinctive feel O’Sheas customer have come to appreciate. The newer version will offer a pub and table games and be located at the entrace of the Linq district.

Shortly following the closing of O’Sheas Casino, Caesars Entertainment announced plans to introduce The LINQ Resort & Casino. The re-branding process will be completed by the end of 2012, with the renovations to be done in phases and scheduled for finish by late 2013.

Improvements to the exterior façade, porte cochere, front desk, bell desk, hotel lobby, casino floor, retail promenade and dining levels are all on the list for completion. A dual-sided lobby bar, Starbucks, and a retail promenade highlight some of the changes. The LINQ’s main entrance will be on the north side of the building with access via Koval Road or the Harrah’s tunnel off Las Vegas Blvd. A pedestrian walkway, offering a safe pathway for guests on foot, will make its way from the adjacent Harrah’s Carnaval Court through to the south side of The LINQ hotel into The LINQ.

The construction timeline as provided by Caesars Entertainment:

Phase I: Front desk and bell desk – Complete
Phase II: Valet entrance/porte cochere – Fall 2012
Phase III: Casino expansion – Spring 2013
Phase IV: Completion of casino, lobby bar and front façade – End of 2013

The resort will remain open throughout the duration of the construction period with maximum precaution taken to minimize guest disruption. During the renovation phase, the resort’s most beloved attractions will remain open including Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas, The Auto Collections and the ever-popular Hash House A Go Go.

When completed, The Linq will offer more than 200,000 square feet featuring more than 30 unique retail, dining and entertainment experiences. The focal point is the High Roller which will take 30 minutes to complete one revolution and offer breath taking views of Las Vegas and the Strip.

High Roller Ferris Wheel Arrives in Vegas

August 26, 2021 by lvd0zias

One would think by now that the creative minds in Vegas would be running out of ideas to lure visitors back to the city over and over. Think again. Year after year, construction on the Strip is keeping things fresh from the not so creative shopping outlets to the more creative, unique experiences. The world’s tallest Ferris wheel, named the High Roller, definitely falls into the second category and has arrived in Las Vegas in what is yet another impressive attraction in an effort to lure visitors to Vegas. But is it worth the ride?

The 550-foot tall observation wheel is located within an open-air retail, dining and entertainment district known as The LINQ which is located between The LINQ Resort & Casino and Flamingo Las Vegas, directly facing Caesars Palace. Although it lays claim to the title of world’s tallest Ferris wheel, it is a temporary honor as larger wheels are to be constructed in New York and Dubai. But hey, it is still great to be number one even if it is short lived.

Open 365 days a year, riders are treated to a 30 minute experience at a cost of $24.95 during the day or $34.95 at night inside one of the 28 pods which each hold 40 people. The extra $10 for the night time ride is definitely worth it considering the views of the Strip at night are spectacular. If incredible views aren’t your thing, this isn’t the ride for you as with the High Roller travelling at one foot per second you won’t be screaming out in fear of the speed. From the ground, the wheel is equally as cool at night as 2,000 LED lights create an eye catching display.

The big question becomes, is it worth the money? For me attractions like this come down to the entire experience from purchasing tickets through exiting the ride. Upon arrival you can choose to purchase your tickets at a kiosk or one of the two ticket windows. From there, depending on the crowd, you may end up having to wait in what I refer to as “pre-pre-boarding” where you wind around through a maze structure waiting on a bag check and ticket taker.

Once through security you enter the High Roller lounge. It is very important to note that outside drinks are not allowed. You can purchase a High Roller drink in a souvenir cup for $17. The cheapest beverages are draft beer or a soft drink for $7. From the lounge you head to the “pre-boarding” area. TV screens provide instructions along with various other videos. Time to take out my phone and wait.

From there it is onto the pod itself. There is bench seating but I found myself standing and moving around a lot so no need to worry about the perfect seat. There are video monitors within the pod pointing out Strip attractions and providing other insights of the wheel itself. One last important note, use the bathroom prior to boarding the pod or be prepared to wait the 30 minutes.

This is Vegas so one expects the line-ups and the high drink prices, so no surprise there. As with most amusement park rides it is what you have no control over which could potentially ruin the experience. It is not hard to imagine finding yourself on a pod with a group of drunk people or those who decide to lay claim to one spot in the pod and not move. Although the view is 365 degrees, you can’t escape the fact some locations are better than others, however slight. Smelly, loud obnoxious co-riders could also make this a disappointing experience.

Odds are you won’t run into any trouble makers on the High Roller Ferris Wheel and end up having an incredible time. It is hard to not be impressed by the engineering itself and yes, you may end up being a little apprehensive as you climb to new heights. But when all is said and done it is the view itself which is really incredible, making this an absolutely must do at least once Vegas attraction.
